Kinney Avenue Townhomes

Galveston, Texas

Townhomes on Kinney Avenue in Austin are located within an older established neighborhood, on a site with large beautiful trees. The seven-unit structure is designed to reflect the nice scale of the neighborhood, preserve existing trees, and use the City building code in more creative ways when it comes to setbacks, overhangs, and an overall density of detail on the façade. The first floor is clad in stone and creates a strong masonry base with the upper floors being broken into smaller components varying across the facade for an adequate differentiation between dwelling units. The strong masonry base is punctuated by a large arched opening that serves as the main car entrance. Roof design, broken façade, and a general density of detail all work to create a stimulating visual interest along the street and to recreate, with modern means, the formal richness of buildings found in our traditional neighborhoods.
